Meet Sam

Meet Mohammed Srkhar Niloy, better known as ‘Sam’ to the ASRC Catering team. Sam was born in Bangladesh and also has family in Malaysia. He came to Australia when he was 19 years old.

Sam’s love for food, along with his infectious smile and laugh, brings a lot of joy to the ASRC Catering kitchen. His passion for food began when he was a teenager, spending time with his mum as she cooked. Slowly, he learned more and more as he helped her, providing Sam with both fond memories and important skills.

With no family here in Australia, Sam sometimes feels the weight of this. “I’m lonely here sometimes,” he reflects. Instead, Sam has built his family through friendships, particularly a special bond with Manel (link to Manel’s story), a fellow ASRC Catering cook. Manel invites Sam to join social gatherings with her family, treating him to her delicious Malaysian food.
